MATRIX ASSISTED LASER DESORPTION IONIZATION MASS SPECTROMETRY IMAGING
Matrix assisted laser desorption ionization (MALDI) mass spectrometry imaging (MSI) is mass spectrometry driven molecular histology. By capturing the mass spectrum profiles on its surface in discrete pixels, MALDI-MSI preserves the molecular spatial context of your tissue section. It is a proven technology, capable of label free and multiplexed analysis of lipids, metabolites, peptides, proteins on tissue sections, and even polymer in industrial setting.

Coupled with extensive downstream univariate and multivariate statistical analysis on thousands of mass spectra on each sample surface, this technique is a versatile solution for visualizing distribution of targeted compounds, or for spatial biomarker discovery. MALDI-MSI can be combined with other -omics or histological analysis that provide compound identification, quantification and context at bulk or single cell level, enabling deep probing into complex biological interactions on a micro and macroscopic scale.

Scope of Services:

PDI-MSI Post-Run Analysis: Extended
MALDI MOLECULAR WEIGHT DETERMINATION
Matrix assisted laser desorption ionization (MALDI) is a soft ionization technique. Similar to electrospray ionisation (ESI), MALDI enables ionization of large molecules like proteins without extensive fragmentation but unlike ESI, MALDI ions tend to be singly charged. Therefore, MALDI mass spectrum is fairly uncomplicated and simple to decipher.

MALDI is a discrete sample analysis method, requiring samples to be placed on separate sample spots which can be analysed multiple times and has fairly durable shelf life. Coupled with TOF/TOF MS, MALDI can detect intact or digested proteins, peptides, lipids, metabolites, polymers, and have been used to directly mass profile various biological samples, such as bacteria samples and viral particles.
